Hula Hoop Your Hips Away

I recently bought this Danskin 2.5 lb fitness hoop from Walmart for $20 to change up my exercise  routine. The hula hoop tones your biceps, triceps, shoulders, thighs, hips, and glutes. It enhances your balance, stamina, and coordination.

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) funded a study completed at the University of Wisconsin, and found that a 30 minute weighted hula hoop workout which consisted of hooping moves and twirling motions around the arms, waist, and legs burned roughly 7 calories per minute. I spent a few minutes hula hooping while I watched tv, but the weight of the hoop caused soreness around my stomach and hips. You may want to add some extra padding. I’ve read reviews that this is normal and you get use to the weight within a few weeks. It was easy to assemble and comes apart for convenient portability. I’m looking forward to hula hooping my hips away. I’ll keep you posted!

UPDATE 5/1/13: It only took me a few days to et use to the weighted hula hoop. I can go non-stop for over 10 minutes and I actually break a sweat. It’s definitely one of my favorite quick exercises when I’m pinched for time.
